Sometimes things seem to happen that demonstrate a connectedness. It could just be coincidence or is it that we look to find reasons in what happens. Events that occur in the past that leads to the present and bring about a different conclusion. Connections are made that look like it’s a conspiracy. Do our thoughts put into energy affect the reality that seems to present itself? Think of all the things that have happened in the past to bring us to this moment. Are the events just random and do our minds make connections like the neurons in our brains? There is a desire to see patterns in seemingly random world so we feel better about predicting the future. We see the patterns and then add meaning to them based on what we want to see happen.
Here is an example. I interview a real estate agent who is active in the neighborhood and has their name on signs all over. So the time comes and I’m thinking about selling so I set up an interview. Months go by and I decide to proceed with a different agent and send the first one an email thanking them for their time. In reply I get a request from her to bring by a prospective buyer. They come over the next day. I have a full price offer that night, mutual agreement the next day and a week later my house is sold. No listing, no showing and no hassles. Almost seems too easy. Would it have sold anyway? Sure. Would something else have happened? Of course. It’s just interesting how one event or action leads to another unexpected outcome.
I don’t know if this happens to others but I can look back and map turning points that have led to this moment. I guess I am reflective at this time because I realize I am at one of those moments that will be a turning point. One that leads in a different direction from where I thought I was going. Figuratively and literally in diving off into the sunrise in a Winnebago.
Another example. Last summer I’m invited to play in a fund raising golf tournament sponsored by work. I go, play and win a night stay in a hotel as a door prize. So eight months later I make a reservation to go to Tacoma for the weekend to use the gift. I get to the room and it’s the same number as my house address 1716. I guess the odds are 1:320 that I would get that room (320 rooms in the hotel) but it’s the chance of events that seem improbable. The weekend includes going to see the Le May car collection. After a few hours looking at the 500 plus cars there I mention not seeing a Karman Ghia. They had a Beetle and too many other cars to remember and mostly American models so maybe it’s not to odd. So walk into the hotel lobby to check in and what’s there but an original 1962 Karman Ghia from the collection. Go figure. There where probably a thousand other events that occurred without memory but it’s the couple connections that make an impression. For now I’m good with being an observer of the connection without giving it meaning.
