Life is in the journey. It's what happens while you're trying to figure the rest out.
Leaving a life of quiet desperation for a life of quite exploration.
This blog is to document my "gap" year. Interest, ability and opportunity combined in a conspiracy to allow this journey to happen. The idea started on a trail run in a local park in Missouri. Running though the park was a good way to see the sights and get some exercise. So why not travel around the country in my RV and do the same thing? I'll be looking for places to pull off and go exploring with my Five Fingers shoes. It's not the reason for the journey but a direction.
SPOT GPS
Here is the link to my SPOT GPS shared page. It only shows information that I've sent in the last 7 days. So if it's empty it just means I haven't used it lately but I'm still OK.

A name and fire.
Last night in a small ceremony with friends and neighbors the Winnebago was given a name: Niña. After the sturdy and trusted vessel of Columbus. The boat Nina was captained by Jaun Niño. (John boy). I go by the name Jaun Carlos Gaviota for the symbol of my journey to come. After a toast and some champagne a fire was lit and all of the legal paperwork from my dissolution was set ablaze.

Houdini Pro Rescue Tool
Here is a video I made to demonstrate a auto glass breaking tool. I had the Eddie Bauer tool in my car and had a chance to use it on an accident I came upon (not my own). It didn't work but the fire department arrived and all turned out well. So I went looking and did some testing and this video is the result.
Solar Panel on the RV
I added a 140 watt 8 amp solar panel to the RV. I did some research online and ended up using RV Solar Electric. Called them on the phone and they are very helpful. Went through my needs and designed a system. Went with one large panel and a simple 10 amp controller. I have two Interstate 26 house batteries with an 80 amp/hour rating each. With this panel on a sunny day I should be able to put 40 amp/hours into the bank (8amps x 5 hours).
Panel: Kyocera KD-140sx
Controller: SunSaver 10L-12 12v 10A Charge Controller
Xantrex LinkLite Battery Monitor
Xantrex 1000w inverter.
If the ac shroud looks new it's because it is. During installation of the panel I leaned on the shroud and put my hand trough the top. 25 years of weather made it very brittle. On a good note I took the RV in and they checked the rooftop ac and found no problems. They where also able to revive my engine ac. A leaky hose replaced, updated system to the new refrigerant, and $1000 but I've got ac thank to Evergreen RV.

Deception Pass State Park
Winter weekend visit. Another "making new memories" trip. Still early season and the camp ground was only about 1/4 open. A few hardy northwest blue tarp campers and a few families trying out their new RV's.
Nice trail run along the beach and woods. |

Result a a recent winter wind storm. |
